Review: Native Coffee Company Colombia Lumen (Dallas, Texas)

After my utter delight tasting and reviewing Native’s Golden Hour, I was very much looking forward to trying more offerings from this roaster. As before, I took the company’s advice and waited 4 weeks from roast date to crack open the bag. It was WELL worth it.

Whole bean: Guava and cheesecake! My goodness, what a unique aroma. I was entranced.

French press: I visited Porto’s Bakery once while in the Los Angeles area, and one particular pastry the bakery is known for is their Refugiado (guava and cheese strudel) – similar to pastelitos. This coffee smells and tastes just like those. What a revelation. Creamy, tangy, complex and so satisfying.

Chemex: Less guava flavor in this cup but still has a rich taste.

Clever Dripper: Great sweetness.

Hario V60: Strong, tangy guava flavor again, but without the creamy character of the French press cup.

Summary: If you like guava and cheesecake, this coffee will be an utter treat. All of the cups were tasty but I think the French press brought out the absolute best in these beans.

From the roaster: Guava, cheesecake, golden delicious apple, pear

Lumen is currently listed on their online store along with around 15 other intriguing blends and single-origins.
